His family is all there and I enjoy visiting them at least once a year but I have become frustrated because I am unable to participate in the conversations. I get the gist of what is going on but I would like better for myself. Plus, its about keeping my brain agile and the number one way to do that is to learn a new language. Angelique is a wonderfully skilled and talented French instructor. She's also a perfectionist which means that you will get the pronunciations and grammar rules correct so that you will be understood by native speakers. I can do the different "R" sounds now that exist in French that have no parallel in English. Angelique has unique ways to train the muscles if your mouth and throat so that you get it right. She send recording for you to practice with and her ears are like the mother with eyes on the back of their head-She hears every everything and will not let ANYTHING slip. And that is how it should be. My husband is a native French speaker and in my early attempts to learn with another teacher, my husband would look at me confused and say "Huh? Huh? Huh?". No more of that. He smiles so big because he is able to hear my improvement even when I cannot perceive it myself. I've been with Angelique for 9 months and already I can understand more and actually answer questions in our conversations about the material. There were days when I wanted to cry (and I did) because it seemed like it wasn't coming.I would practice and hope to move on and she would say-no you aren't there yet. "I was entering my 4th year of French in High School, meaning it was an AP class, and I was struggling right off the bat. But then I found Angelique, and she helped me find the root of my problems in French and our lessons thereafter were all personalized towards what I needed to improve on the most. "After having lived in Paris, France for 4 months, I want to say that I am even more impressed with the quality of Angelique's lessons! And I want to update my already positive review (which you can read below). I took 10 weeks of lessons with her before moving to Paris, and I can say that she provided an exceptional foundation for my language learning. At this point after living in Paris for 4 months, I can engage in conversations with ease and follow the course of a group discussion (without understanding every word). Particularly crucial was Angelique's emphasis on learning the correct "sounds" in French (before moving to constructing sentences). "I’ve wanted to learn Spanish for a couple of years now. A few months ago, I finally started researching options. I wasn’t quite sure what to look for because I have never studied a second language before. I am a working adult and enrolling in a community college to learn a second language was an option, but didn’t seem like the best option. "I learned very basic French several years ago and lately I decided to pick up this habit. I feel I'm quite lucky to find "Speak It Like A Native" and to learn French with Angélique, this is a totally fun and fulfilling experience. There are two highlights I feel it's super beneficial to beginners like me: 1. The pronunciation. French pronunciation is quite tricky for me and Angélique has a wonderful series of pronunciation lessons for that. From vowels, consonants, nasal sounds to liaisons and tones, the most amazing part is she can reverse-engineer the pronunciation rules which are taken granted by the native speakers and make you understand all the underlying subtleties. These things take years to figure out if no one elaborates. 2. The learning materials are fun and well-organized. It basically covers listen/speak/read/write equally and usually it provides a basic concept and gradually adds more and more complexity to it so you won't feel overwhelmed. The assignments make sure each concept is well-digested so you can build up solid fundamentals. In a conversation session, you will feel thrilled to try to understand the question and use what you learned to compose the response. So far I'm satisfied with my progress, I enjoy my journey and am looking forward to my lesson every week. I think the best way to seriously learn a new language is to find a private 1-on-1 lesson as it requires constant exposure and effort.
