Experiencing the language in its natural environment can be invaluable. If traveling is not an option, it is still important to immerse yourself in the language, and the internet makes this easier than ever.
Do you like the sounds of the language?
This is crucial because you will repeat these sounds over and over as you learn to speak. Make sure the language is pleasing to your ear.
Do you like the culture?
What attracts you to the culture associated with the language? Understanding your motivation can keep you inspired as you learn.
